Tango takes share in SnappCar, setting out in high gear

Utrecht – The Hague, 26 September 2019 – Tango, together with the current shareholders, is investing 8 million euros in car sharing platform SnappCar. Backed by this support, SnappCar is fully committed to growth and offering more user convenience in the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark and Germany. Since 2017, the number of car sharers on the platform has almost doubled to 700,000. As the largest European company in this market, SnappCar aims to reach 1 Million users by next summer. Tango, part of the globally operating Q8 Group, sees great opportunities in societal changes towards mobility, such as less focus on car ownership. It is Tango’s ambition to have a third of its customers share or lease a car with SnappCar.

"In addition to over 190 unmanned Tango petrol stations and a partner network of over 750 petrol stations, this investment will allow us to focus on new services in the Netherlands," explains Bert Gillis, Retail Director Benelux Q8 & Tango: "People are sharing their cars more often, especially if it works quickly and easily. SnappCar is therefore the ideal partner for us to seize the opportunities in this market. This investment fits our ambition to become a future oriented player in mobility. Our expertise and knowledge reach their full potential in cooperation with SnappCar."

Victor van Tol, CEO and co-founder of SnappCar also sees benefits: “More and more people are experiencing the benefits of car sharing. With Tango on board, we invest heavily in growth and extra user convenience. We are working on smart solutions, so that exchanging keys and refueling or charging are no longer necessary at the end of each ride. This way cars are better used; instead of standing still in the city on average 23 hours a day."

Immediate benefit for Tango customers

Tango customers will immediately receive an offer from SnappCar to use SnappCar Keyless for 4 months free of charge. Behind the dashboard, a certified technician will install a box. Customers can then immediately open the car using the SnappCar app. A car fitted with Keyless is rented out three times more often than other cars. On average, a "Keyless" car generates 350 euros per month. "There will also be a joint Tango-SnappCar offer consisting of a discount on fuel, a private lease offer and the possibility of car sharing," says Bert Gillis.

On the way to 1 million customers

"We are aiming at 1 million users on our platform by next summer," says Van Tol. “The more members join our community, the better car sharers know where to find each other, especially in cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht. That way cars are always in good supply, from a convertible to a station wagon. ” A total of 80,000 cars are registered with SnappCar. In addition to Tango, Autobinck Group and the Danish start-up studio Founders are also investing in further growth.

Tango also expresses ambitions

“It is Tango’s goal to have a third of customers share or lease a car with SnappCar. By sharing the car, customers can boost their monthly income. For some customers it will be even more beneficial to sell their car and to solely use shared cars. A smart way of sustainable and cost-saving mobility," says Gillis.

Safe, clean, simple, customer oriented and fast are important principles for refueling at Tango. It is Tango's ambition to focus more on e-mobility and broad mobility-oriented services in the future. Tango therefore continues to innovate and invest in future-oriented opportunities that make every customer journey more sustainable.
